Purvis Barbecue (Louisville, Ga.)

For classic Southern barbecue this place is hard to beat. You don't want to miss it if you are visiting this corner of East Georgia. You order at the counter (pork only, of course) and get a big plate full of delicious pork, slaw, and some great stew. The meat is well-smoked, and extremely tasty, although it is lightly saturated with a mild sauce, which some might not appreciate. But it works for me. The stew is not the best in the world but well above average and perfectly spiced. The slaw is mayo based, and excellent. They also serve plain white bread with their plates, and plenty of it, just as God intended.

I like taking a single piece of bread, cover half of it with meat, then some stew, then some slaw, topping it off with some of the hot vinegar sauce, then folding it over to eat sort of like a hot dog (only much better). The flavors blend perfectly.

This place is awesome, my family has been getting this barbeque for years and is the best i've ever had in the world. I think anywhere in Georgia has to bow down to Purvis, and really should take some notes.

We have family that live near Purvis. Just bought enough to freeze on my last visit. Our favorite bbq by FAR. I have lived in GA, AL and now SC. Nothing else comes close.

If you like a vinagar based BBQ sauce, then this is the place for you. I have eaten BBQ all over the south and this is by far the best BBQ I have ever had. If you ever get over to Louisville, GA; stop by and get some BBQ and the pecan pie is to die for.

I am headed to Louisville now to get some Q for Memorial Day. It's a 45-minute drive for me, and well worth it. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best BBQ around. Delicious smoked meat without a lot of "gross" pieces like some Q has. I love the vinegar based sauce. I think they're only open Thurs.-Sat. (or maybe only Fri.-Sat.), so you might want to check that they're open before you make the trip. Oh, I can't wait!

My family is from Louisville so we have been eating it for years. There is no other BBQ around that matches Purvis! We make day trips and stock up BBQ and stew for the freezer. We now have turned so many friends on to it that we have to bring a bigger cooler for all the orders!

Headed to Purvis today to get some BBQ. I live in Augusta, 45 minutes away. It is well worth the drive. The BBQ is the best around, and the Brunswick stew is untouched! Their stew tastes just like my Mom's, and that's the best compliment I can give to anyone.

We have been loving Purvis barbeque since they were located outside of Wadley. We live in Atlanta and still go "home" to get their barbeque and delicious sauce. Their pecan pie and potato salad is also excellent. J.C. W.
